Grow Your Business in 2015 with a Small Business Loan

Kathy Henderson, Director of Economic Development

Director of Carbon County Economic Development

Small Businesses are the backbone of our economy.  I’m sure you have heard that statement before. But have you ever stopped to think about the large corporations whose goods and services you use every day and wonder how they got to be where they are today?

We all know the story of Apple. How thirty-six years ago, Steve Jobs, a young computer programmer working out of his parents’ garage, was looking for investors so he could create the world’s most user-friendly personal computer. John Hines, who managed an Illinois-based venture capital fund licensed and supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration, saw the potential. He invested half a million dollars in the promising start-up. Two years later the company went public and the venture capital fund sold its stake for $44 million. And the rest, as they say, is history. Read More

With Winter Here, Customers Can Get Help with Their Electric Bill

Paul Canevari, PPL

With winter at the doorstep, PPL Electric Utilities has several programs to help its income-eligible customers pay their bills, maintain uninterrupted service and stay warm this season.

Electric use tends to spike in winter, as it can in summer, and that means some of the utility’s customers who are struggling financially also will struggle to pay their electric bill. Sometimes people on fixed or limited incomes are forced into choosing whether to pay their energy bill or buy sufficient food for their family.

3 Steps to Energy Saving This Winter

Courtesy of Guest Blogger, Paul Canevari, Regional Affairs Director, PPL Corporation

Use energy wisely, shop for electricity and shop smart

Last winter, many PPL Electric Utilities customers on variable-rate plans for their generation supply faced high bills, resulting from a combination of high usage during the prolonged cold weather and volatile market prices.

Fall is a traditionally a time to prepare for the long, cold months ahead. Before the cold of winter and heating bills hit, there’s also no better time to take steps to keep your electric bill low.

PPL Electric Utilities suggests a three-step plan to help customers avoid paying more than they have to for electricity:

Use energy wisely:  PPL Electric Utilities has many tips on its website at www.pplelectric.com. They include turning the thermostat down, if you can. Heating accounts for more than 30 percent of an average home’s energy bill. Turning the thermostat down about 1 degree saves about 2 percent on your heating bill, while turning it down 5 degrees saves about 10 percent. Also, seal your house against drafts, and have your ductwork checked for air leaks.

Great Image Creation...It's All About the 3 C's

Dave Figenshu, Full Moon Digital TV

Courtesy of Guest Blogger: Dave Figenshu Director of Photography, Full Moon Digital TV

Technology is amazing.

I have been a photographer, since I got my first movie camera in 1969. Images, still or moving, create memories. I took my camera everywhere. You never knew when that perfect situation would present itself. Even with the most complex cameras, I could aim and shoot quickly. People would leave their camera's at home if they knew I would be there with mine.

So I will fast forward past my decades of television and film work, to the present. Every digital device has some capability to make a still image or a video. And this technology is so refined that it is difficult to tell the 'device' images from my $$$$ digital camera. Read More

Why You Need Video Marketing For Your Business

An article from The Video Brewery shared by Dave Figenshu, Full Moon Digital TV

If you're not using video marketing, you're missing out on a huge market opportunity. It's not just the number of people who are watching videos that's important – it's the reasons why they watch it. When you post an online marketing video to a business website, you've got a great chance of engaging with a busy executive who is specifically looking for your services but might not have reached out to schedule a meeting for a presentation. Your marketing video is a great way to get your elevator pitch out into the ether and let it reel in leads.Read More

Wine Tasting 101 – Wine Tasting Etiquette

From Guest Blogger: Kathy Matson, Tasting Manager, Galen Glen Winery

If you read the last blog post, you know about the 5 S’s and how to physically taste wine, but there’s more to it.  Visiting wineries can be fun and here are some basic wine tasting etiquette tips.

1. Know before you go.  Learn a little about the winery you are visiting.  Check out their website to be sure they are open, what times they do tastings, if there are tours, if there is a tasting fee, if you need reservations, and if they permit limos, outside food or picnics, children, pets, etc.  Learn what wines they are known for.  Just like you wouldn’t go to a famous steak house and only order seafood, you don’t want to visit a primarily “red wine” winery and say, “I only drink whites.” You will always receive a warm welcome when you know what to expect and what is expected.Read More

Wine Tasting 101 – How to Taste Wine

From Guest Blogger: Kathy Matson, Tasting Manager, Galen Glen Winery

Often, when I think about wine, I think about the conversations between Niles and Frazier, the Crane brothers, on the hit show Frazier.  They would make wine sound so complicated—something that required essay answers instead of simple phrases like, “that’s good” or “I like that.”  Do you avoid wine tastings for fear of encountering a wine snob or feeling wine-dumb?  You should not let that stop you from an enjoyable time.  Here are a few basics—start with the 5 S’s.
